Kai Kara-France vs. Brandon Moreno interim flyweight title bout slated for UFC 277

Kai Kara-France announces he suffered an injury and is out of UFC 284 against Alex Perez: ‘I’m gutted I won’t be able to fight in front of everyone in Aus’

Kai Kara-France will not be fighting in Australia after all.

Kara-France was booked to fight at UFC 284 in Perth, Australia against Alex Perez in a battle of top-10 flyweights. However, the Kiwi took to Instagram on Thursday to announce he suffered an injury and had to pull out of his UFC 284 fight in Australia.

“Unfortunately due to injury, I’ve had to pull out of my up coming fight in Perth. I’m gutted I won’t be able to fight in front of everyone in Aus. To everyone who supports me, Im sorry. This has been frustrating but i know I’m making the right decision. Hopefully me and @alexperezmma can run it back next year. Enjoy the holidays and stay safe. Will see you back in the Octagon 2023. Much love everyone!,” Kara-France wrote on Instagram.

Kai Kara-France (24-10 and one No Contest) was looking to return to the win column as he was coming off a TKO loss to Brandon Moreno at UFC 277 for the interim flyweight title. Prior to that, he was on a three-fight win streak with wins over Askar Askarov by decision, a KO win over Cody Garbrandt, and a KO win over Rogerio Bontorin.

Kara-France has been in the UFC since 2018 and is 6-3 inside the Octagon with his other wins over Tyson Nam, Mark De La Rosa, and Raulian Paiva. His other two losses are a submission loss to Brandon Royval and a decision loss to Moreno in 2019.
