Keri Taylor Melendez talks Bellator 252 win, free agency and family
Keri Taylor Melendez put on a clinic at Bellator 252 earlier this month.
In her fight, Melendez looked fantastic on the feet as she battered Emilee King before submitting her just over the halfway point of the first round.
Following her win, Melendez spoke to MyMMANews in an interview to discuss her win.
Melendez said the game plan in her victory over King was to stay at range and work in body shots. That’s exactly what she did as she excused the game plan perfectly and left the Bellator cage with a perfect 5-0 record.
The fight marked the last fight on Bellator contract and Melendez also spoke on free agency and how she’s hoping to resign with the promotion.
If Melendez does comeback to Bellator, she hopes that Bellator CEO Scott Coker will bring in more strawweight’s for her to challenge herself. If he doesn’t, she has no problem moving up to flyweight and taking on the division’s top fighters.
Coker said in his Bellator 253 post-fight press conference that Bellator’s next grand prix will be between either the women’s flyweight division or the men’s bantamweight division. If the promotion goes with the flyweight’s, Melendez wants to be apart of it.
Aside from the fighting, Melendez did speak a lot about her family. Her husband and manger is former Strikeforce lightweight champion and former UFC title challenger Gilbert Melendez. The two own a gym together and aside from being heavy involved with the fight game, they spend a lot of time with their daughter.
You can hear everything that Melendez had to say in the video above.
