Khabib Nurmagomedov interested in booking Fedor Emelianenko vs. Junior dos Santos

Eagle FC promoter Khabib Nurmagomedov says is interested in booking Fedor Emelianenko vs. Junior dos Santos in a collaboration with Bellator.

Emelianenko is currently under contract with Bellator, but he likely only has one more fight in his MMA career. At this point, we don’t know who Emelianenko’s final opponent would be. But if you ask Nurmagomedov, his opponent should be dos Santos. The former UFC heavyweight champion returns to the cage this weekend when he fights Yorgan De Castro in the main event of Eagle FC 47. If JDS wins that fight, then Nurmagomedov hopes that he can come together with Bellator’s Scott Coker in order to book a dos Santos vs. Emelianenko cross-promotion bout.

Speaking at the Eagle FC 47 pre-fight press conference this week, Nurmagomedov explained why he wants to book a dos Santos vs. Emelianenko superfight.

“If Dos Santos wins, I really want to make Dos Santos vs Fedor fight,” Nurmagomedov said (h/t Bloody Elbow). “He has to stay focused, but I want to talk to my friend Scott Coker because Fedor is under Bellator contract. I don’t know what they’re going to do next with him but definitely we can talk and we can create some good stories. Why not? Because these two guys was long time the face of MMA. Fedor is the greatest fighter of all time, in my opinion, and Dos Santos was champion for a couple of years in UFC. These two guys they deserve and the fans deserve and for me it’s a very interesting matchup, too.”

After Nurmagomedov revealed that he wants to book this dos Santos vs. Emelianenko matchup, Coker took to Twitter to suggest that he has a meeting with “The Eagle” coming up in the next week. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire, so don’t be surprised if this heavyweight superfight between JDS and Emelianenko eventually gets made. But there are, of course, some hurdles to get through before this fight could happen.
