Khalil Rountree spoils Chris Daukaus’ 205 lb debut, makes it four-straight with TKO win at UFC Vegas 78

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returned to us tonight, August 12, 2023, for UFC Vegas 78, going down live from the UFC Apex in Enterprise, Nevada.

Headlining the event is a Brazil versus Brazil showdown between former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos (32-14) and no. 10 ranked welterweight contender Vicente Luque (21-9-1).

Co-headlining the event is a featherweight bout between Cub Swanson (28-13) and Hakeem Dawodu (13-3-1).

Our feature fight of the evening came at 205 lbs between Khalil Rountree Jr (12-5) and Chris Daukaus (12-7).

Rountree came into the bout on a three-fight win streak and had gone 4-2 since moving his camps to Tiger Muay Thai in 2019, while Daukaus came in on a three-fight skid following a four-fight knockout streak to begin his promotional tenure; Daukaus made his light-heavyweight debut tonight, dropping down from the heavyweight division.

Official Result: Khalil Rountree Jr def. Chris Daukaus via TKO (punches) at 2:40 of round one

Daukaus opens up the bout landing a good combination, Rountree landing a heavy left hand of his own not long thereafter. Rountree then lands a counter right hook as Daukaus is coming in, wobbling Daukaus in the process though he recovers and shoots in on a takedown shortly following.

Rountree defends it well and lands another nice counter right hook once they’re back to striking range. Rountree then lunges in for that left hand again, landing it right on the button and dropping Daukaus on the spot.

After a couple follow up punches the referee is forced to stop the action midway through round one.

After a 4-0 start to Chris Daukaus’ UFC tenure, all four wins coming via knockout, he’s since gone 0-4 through four-straight fights, all four defeats also coming via knockout.

Khalil Rountree Jr on the other hand has gone 4-0 since 2021 with three knockouts.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
