Kiara Rubalcaba, 17-year-old with 2 months boxing experience, dies from sparring
Kiara Rubalcaba, a 17-year-old girl with just a few months boxing experience, has tragically passed away from injuries sustained while training at ‘Gym Box Johnny’ in the Potreros del Oeste neighborhood of Aguascalientes, Mexico.
Rubalcaba was paired with a more experienced opponent for a sparring session on October 17. Two days later, she was dead.
The young girl who had only two months’ experience in the boxing gym, allegedly received several blows to the head. Soon thereafter, she collapsed and began to convulse. Rubalcaba was taken to the General Hospital Zone No. 1, where she was stabilized, but when her condition did not improve, she was transferred to Hidalgo Hospital, where advanced technology was available.
Following an emergency surgery, Rubalcaba passed away and the Aguascalientes prosecutor’s office launched an investigation to understand what took place and whether the gym was involved in any negligence.
