Kyle-Daukaus-Roman-Dolidze

Kyle Daukaus says he broke his face in three places against Roman Dolidze at UFC Austin

UFC middleweight Kyle Daukaus says he broke his face in three places against Roman Dolidze during their fight last month at UFC Austin.

Daukaus was knocked out in the first round by a Doldize knee and follow-up punches in what was a sizeable upset according to the betting odds. For Daukaus, this was actually the first time in his entire pro MMA career that he suffered a knockout loss, and it was a vicious one at that. Not only did Daukaus get knocked out and lose the fight, but it appears as though he will be out for a few months due to the injuries he suffered from the knee.

Taking to his social media to explain to fans what happened, Daukaus admitted that the knee from Dolidze shattered his face in three places, necessitating him into having surgery to fix his broken face.

“During the fight, I got kneed, obviously. As soon as the knee landed, it kind of broke my face in three places. The scans I got, I had two orbital fractures, and I think I had a fracture in my eye socket as well underneath,” Daukaus said (h/t MMAFighting.com).

“Surgery went well, it was last Thursday,” he said. “I got three plates put in unfortunately in my face. I got three plates on my actual face, and then I have one underneath my eyeball, too, but the one underneath my eyeball isn’t really a plate. It just kind of molds to my bone, so it will eventually become one as opposed to the ones that are actually screwed in my face and my cheekbone. Things like this happen.”

According to Daukaus, he will be out for six-to-eight weeks for recovery, but he knows he has to be cautious in his approach when returning from an injury of this magnitude, and he is not rushing back to take his next fight.

What do you think is next for Kyle Daukaus following this brutal KO loss to Roman Dolidze at UFC Austin?
