Lauren Murphy explains Modafferi, Davis callouts: ‘We’re here for a good time, not for a long time’

Lauren Murphy discusses her third-round TKO finish of Mara Romero Borella over the weekend at UFC on ESPN 5. The event took place at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.

“Lucky” discusses the big win, the sacrifices she made — between training with her old camp, while adding some new elements with Kru Bob Perez, and having to spend time away from her family to get ready for the fight — if anything surprised her in that fight, how important getting a finish would be to remind the rest of the division that she’s still in the mix, realizing that good things can happen for her, when she would like to return, not getting a bonus and much more.

Murphy also explains her callouts of Roxanne Modafferi and Alexis Davis to the media following the big win.

“For me, I want to fight a longtime vet like Roxanne Modafferi and Alexis Davis,” Murphy told MyMMANews.com. “The thing that I like about those fights is that those girls are so good on the ground that I can’t use take them down and hope to win by TKO, or by being on top. That’s my preferred method. I like to make it dirty, but I can’t do that with those girls. They can really force me out of my comfort zone and both of those fights have Fight of the Night written all over it. Roxanne is a multiple time bonus winner, Alexis Davis cannot help herself but to be in a war every single fight she has. I would love to fight either one of those girls.

“Another thing is girls like Antonina (Shevchenko) will be around for a long time and I don’t want to miss my chance to fight Roxanne or Alexis while we’re all in the top-10, while they’re both ranked above me, while they’re popular fighters and well known in this division. Fighters aren’t here for a long time. We’re here for a good time, not for a long time. You got to catch those fights while you can.”
