LFA 96 results: Maycon Mendonca vs. Batsumberel Dagvadorj

Maycon Mendonca became the new Legacy Fighting Alliance welterweight champion in a five-round war, defeating Batsumberel Dagvadorj via unanimous decision in the LFA 96 headliner on Friday, Dec. 4.  MyMMANews has your LFA 96 results below.

The surging welterweights are at the top of a seven-bout card in Park City, Kansas. Serving as the so-main event is a 160-pound catchweight between the undefeated Anthony Romero and Zach Juusoloa.

Mendonca is on a tear inside the LFA cage with four-straight victories. He most recently defeated Devin Smyth via second-round TKO at LFA 90 back in September.

Dagvadorj is coming off a first-round submission win over former Strikeforce veteran James Terry at Bellator 226 in September 2019. He LFA debut will mark his first fight in over a year.

The Kansas state athletic commission requires judges to submit scores for each round.

Joseph Holmes def. Ryan Leininger [Middleweight bout]

Joseph Holmes let his hands go.

Holmes and Leininger traded early in round one. Leininger backed up for the first time when Holmes landed a teap kick to the body.

Just seconds later, the two traded, with Homlmes clipping Leininger with a right hand. Holmes followed up with a knee that put Leininger to the floor.

Holmes jumped on top of Leininger and earned the knockout finish.

Holmes advances to 3-1, while Leininger drops to 4-2.

Slava Borshchev vs. William Starks [Lightweight bout]

Starks’ late effort in the third round earned him a split decision win against fellow lighteight Slava Borshchev.

The first round consisted of mostly on the feet. Starks looked for the takedown and ended up putting Borshchev to his butt. Borshchev landed more strikes on the feet, getting the nod from all three judges, 10-9 after round one.

Starks lands an early takedown, but Borshchev quickly reveres the position. The two scramble to their feet after going to the mat briefly. Borshchev continued to land more volume, but Starks earned another takedown in the final two minutes of the second round.

Borshchev eventually got to his feet, but Starks rebounded in a big way during round two. All three judges score it 10-9 for Starks, making it 19-19 going into the third round.

Starks slips briefly in round three and Borshchev peppers Starks with numerous right hands. Borshchev getting his hands going, landing the better shots. Borshchev slips this time and Starks attacks the back.

Borshchev landing strikes to the body late in round two. Starks clinches late and earns a takedown in the final 20 seconds. Starks ends fight in the top position.

Borschev falls to 2-1, while Starks moves to 4-1.

Lisa Mauldin vs. Mitzi Merry [Women’s flyweight bout]

Lisa Mauldin controlled every aspect of the grappling department on her way to a unanimous decision win against Mitzi Merry in the women’s flyweight division,

Mauldin dominated round with her clinch control and takedown offense. Merry attempted a triangle choke, but Mauldin defended.

Mauldin approached round two in similar fashion. Mauldin controlled Merry’s back from the feet, landing strikes from behind. Mauldin ended up in top control, waiting out for the bell.

Mauldin brought the fight to the ground in round three, ticking to the script. Mauldin transitions to full mount early, but failed to capitalize on the position with trikes or submission attempts.

Mauldin moves to 4-2, while Merry falls to even at 2-2.

Mark Martin vs. Mathew Colquhoun [Welterweight bout]

Martin stayed busy in rounds one and two o his way to a unanimous decision victory against Mathew Colquhoun.

Martin dominated in round one with a 10-9 from all three judges. Martin landed the better of the strikes and stuck to his bread and butter in the wrestling department.

Colquhoun capitalized when Morris tripped in round two. Colquhoun peppered Martin with a flurry of punches. Shortly after, Martin scored another takedown.

Martin slowed down in the third round with Colquhoun finding a home for more striking attacks.

Martin improves to 5-1, while Colquhoun drops to 8-5.

Mo Miller vs. Regivaldo Carvalho [Bantamweight bout]

Mo Miller stuck to the script. After Miller landed a number of throwing takedowns, he knocked out Regivaldo Carvalho with. throw in round two.

Miller ducked under and scores a quick takedown in the first round. Carvalho gets to his feet, but Miller send him flying through the air and lands on his neck, Miller repeats the same throw just seconds later.

Miller dominated the rest of the round with his wrestling and striking.

The second round was much of the same as Miller earned a throw, knocking out Carvalho.

Miller moves to 5-0, while Carvalho slips to 5-3.

Anthony Romero vs. Zach Juusola [160-pound catchweight bout]

Anthony Romero edged out a split decision win against Zacg Juusola in the com-main event.

The fight came to the third round as Romero took round one and Juusola rebounded in round two. Romero opened up a cut on Juusola’s left shin in the third round. Romero took the third round to earn the decision nod.

Romero remains unbeaten at 9-0, while Juusolo falls to 11-7.

Maycon Mandonca vs. Batsumberel Dagvadorj [Vacant welterweight championship]

Maycon Mandonca striked his way to winning the vacant welterweight title.

Mandonca defeated Batsumberel Dagvadorj via unanimous decision.

Mandonca may of lost a tooth, but out struck Dagvadorj for four five rounds. Dagvadorj stayed aggressive on the takedowns, but Mandonca punished the Mongolian for coming forward.

Dagvadorj took some punishment, bleeding around his left and right eye. Mandonca becomes the new LFA welterweight champion.

Dagvadorj suffers first professional loss at 7-1. Mandonca improves to 11-4.
