Luke Rockhold on Sean Strickland: “He just proved how f***ing dumb he is”

At UFC 276, #4 middleweight contender, Sean Strickland, took a bout with unranked former Glory kickboxing champion, Alex Pereira.

After making claims that he could stand with the former kickboxing champion, it took Pereira under three minutes to leave Strickland staring up at the lights.

Following the bout, Strickland has gotten quite a bit of backlash. Including some from former UFC middleweight champion, Luke Rockhold.

On yesterday’s episode of Submission Radio, Rockhold discussed the Sean Strickland vs. Alex Pereira bout and claimed that it “proved how f***ing dumb he [strickland] is.”

“The system wanted him to try to stand with him and prove that stupid point.”

“You just try to over-prove yourself and do something stupid. That’s the game, that’s the fight game. It’s a mental f***ing battle, and he lost that battle.”

It is clear that the UFC is after a potential Pereira vs. Isreal Adesanya matchup, given that Pereira has defeated Adesanya twice in the Kickboxing realm, Rockhold continued to tell Submission Radio that “it’s an intriguing story. Alex Pereira has beat Izzy twice.”

Rockhold continues, “even though Alex Pereira would get mauled by, you know, 20 guys in the UFC would probably maul him. But yeah, it’s a compelling story.”

Rockhold (16-5-0) is set to return in August for his first bout in three years. Despite going 2-3 in his last five bouts, Rockhold will look to come out victorious on August 20th as he faces the #5 ranked middleweight, Paulo Costa.

With a win over Costa, Rockhold hopes to leap over Pereira and get a shot to reclaim the middleweight strap.

What do you make of Rockhold’s claims?
