Manon Fiorot spoils Rose Namajunas’ flyweight debut, remains undefeated inside the octagon at UFC Paris

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returned to us today, September 2, 2023, for UFC Paris, going down live from the Accor Arena in Paris, France.

Headlining the event is a heavyweight bout between a pair of contenders in no. 2 ranked former interim champion Ciryl Gane (11-2) and no. 7 ranked Sergey Spivak (16-3).

Co-headlining the event was a flyweight bout between no. 3 ranked contender Manon Fiorot (11-1) and former two-time UFC strawweight champion Rose Namajunas (11-6).

Since losing his professional debut via split decision in 2018, Fiorot had since gone 10-0 including a 5-0 run inside the octagon, while divisional debutante Namajunas had gone 3-1 over her latest four appearances.

Official Result: Manon Fiorot def. Rose Namajunas via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)

Fiorot has a strong start to round one, as Namajunas struggles to find her distance in the opening round.

Namajunas opened up the bout throwing leg kicks but gets away from her kicks almost entirely through round two. Though she has some moments, Fiorot is dictating the distance and pace of the fight.

Fiorot has done a great job of defending all of Namajunas’ takedown attempts through the first ten minutes, and she’s also countering as Namajunas comes in very well.

Namajunas has a much better round three, opening it up with a furious pace. She sat in the pocket, throwing and landing a lot more punches in this round, but it was too little too late as she was down on the cards and was unable to secure a finish.

Manon Fiorot remains undefeated inside the octagon with a victory over her first world champion opponent today at UFC Paris.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
