Manon Fiorot wants one more bout before she fights for the title, but ‘pretty sure’ she defeats Valentina Shevchenko right now
Manon Fiorot picked up the biggest win of her career on Saturday night at UFC Columbus as she beat Jennifer Maia by decision.
Fiorot improved to 9-1 as a pro and is now 4-0 in the UFC with her win over Maia. She will likely land in the top five at women’s flyweight and given how Valentina Shevchenko has run through the division, she could get a title shot next time out. But, she is still soaking up this win as she’s pleased with her performance even though she didn’t get the finish she wanted.
“I’m really happy. I’m here to fight every three or four months and I want to finish the fights and end the fights,” Fiorot said after UFC Columbus. “I’m very happy with my performance tonight because I know she’s a tough opponent. She is highly ranked and very experienced fighter, so I’m happy tonight. … The most important thing is that I won tonight to get a better place in the rankings, but I am disappointed I did not finish the fight.”
Although Fiorot is happy with her win, she already is looking ahead as she says she wants to face Katlyn Chookagian next time out to prove how good of a striker she is.
“I think the matchup with Chookagian is good because we will see who is the better striker in the division,” Fiorot said “After that, why not follow the title?”
Should Manon Fiorot get the Chookagian fight or one similar and wins there’s no question she would get a title shot against Shevchenko. Although Shevchenko has been untouchable at flyweight, Fiorot believes she has the style to dethrone the champ and is confident she could get her hand raised right now if they were to fight.
“I’m pretty sure I could win now. But to be sure and be more relaxed, I want to win one more fight to be like home in the UFC cage,” Fiorot concluded.
