Marlon Moraes vs. Song Yadong targeted for March Fight Night card
Marlon Moraes will look to snap his losing skid in March.
According to Song Yadong who first reported the matchup on the UFC’s Migu channel, Moraes is booked to face Song Yadong on March 12 at a UFC Fight Night card at a venue to be determined. However, the promotion has yet to confirm the fight.
Marlon Moraes (23-9-1) is on a three-fight losing streak and coming off a TKO loss to Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 266 in September. In the fight, the Brazilian had Dvalishvili hurt and appeared to be moments away from finishing him but Dvalishvili survived. Prior to that, he suffered a first-round TKO loss to Rob Font after being knocked out by Cory Sandhagen just two months before in the main event of a Fight Night card on Fight Island. His last win came back at UFC 245 in December of 2019 where he edged out Jose Aldo by split decision although many including Dana White believed Aldo won.
Moraes fought for UFC gold at UFC 238 where he lost by third-round TKO to Henry Cejudo for the vacant bantamweight title. He’s currently ranked ninth at bantamweight and holds notable wins over Raphael Assuncao, Jimmie Rivera, Aljamain Sterling, and John Dodson among others.
Song Yadong (18-5-1) is on a two-fight winning streak and coming off a TKO win over Julio Arce back in November. Before that, the 14th-ranked bantamweight contender beat Casey Kenney by split decision at UFC 265. The 24-year-old is 7-1-1 in the UFC with his loss coming to Kyler Phillips at UFC 259 in March while his draw came at the hands of Cody Stamann in a fight many thought Stamann won.
