A banger of Brazilian middleweight strikers has been added to an upcoming March Fight Night card.
According to Brazilian outlet Combate, Alex Pereira and Bruno Silva have agreed to fight one another on March 12 at a location TBD. The UFC has yet to officially confirm the fight.
Alex Pereira (4-1) is coming off a successful UFC debut where he knocked out Andreas Michailidis by flying knee at UFC 268. He’s the former Glory kickboxing champion and holds two wins over the current UFC middleweight champ in Israel Adesanya with one coming by knockout, being the only person to KO Adesanya. He made his return to MMA in November of 2020 where he knocked out Thomas Powell in LFA.
Pereira lost his first MMA fight in October of 2015 to Quemuel Ottoni but got back into the win column a few months later with a KO win. He then didn’t fight in MMA again until 2020. In his kickboxing career, he holds notable wins over Adesanya, as mentioned, Dustin Jacoby, and Simon Marcus among others.
Bruno Silva (22-6) has been impressive in his UFC career so far as he’s 3-0 with three knockout wins with all the fights happening since June. In his debut, he scored a vicious KO win over Wellington Turman and followed it up four months later with a KO win over Andrew Sanchez, which was a comeback win after losing the first two rounds. Most recently, in December at UFC 269, he knocked out Jordan Wright in the first round.
Silva had signed to the UFC in May of 2019 and was scheduled to fight Deron Winn in June but he tested positive for steroids and was given a two-year ban. He’s the former M-1 Challenge middleweight champion and holds notable wins over Artem Frolov and Alexander Shlemenko among others.
With the addition of Alex Pereira vs. Bruno Silva, the March 12 Fight Night card is as follows:
- Magomed Ankalaev vs. Thiago Santos
- Guido Cannetti vs. Kris Moutinho
- Javid Basharat vs. Trevin Jones
- Marlon Moraes vs. Song Yadong
- Alex Pereira vs. Bruno Silva
