Matt Bessette to defend CES MMA featherweight title versus Jeremy Spoon at CES 44

CES MMA World Featherweight Champion Matt “The Mangler” Bessette will defend his title versus Jeremy “Spooner” Spoon at CES 44 on May 12 at Twin River Casino in Lincoln, R.I., LIVE on AXS TV Fights.

A highly skilled Hartford, Conn., product, Matt Bessette (21-7) seeks to become the first fighter in CES MMA history to successfully defend his title twice. While he’s pumped about that prospect, Bessette’s approach remains the same: getting the job done with an exciting show for the fans.

“I like 22 a lot better than 21,” said “The Mangler” with a smile, referencing his impressive 21-7 record as a professional fighter. “I just can’t wait to get back in there. I love to fight, the people love to watch me fight — and I’m going to put on a show for them.”

But Spoon plans on spoiling the show. The red-hot Bellator MMA vet boasts a record of 19-3, and the tough Oklahoma fighter insists he isn’t leaving New England without the CES MMA World Featherweight Championship.

“That belt is mine,” Spoon said with the confidence of a future champ. “I know Matt has a lot of fans, but they’re going to leave disappointed. That belt is mine, and there’s not a feeling in the world that’s going to compare to having it wrapped around my waist.”
