Maverick 14 results – Worthy vs. Ismoilov

Maverick MMA promoter Willy Sisca held Maverick 14 on Saturday, September 14.  The event which took place at the Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania was headlined by a bantamweight contest between Pittsburgh’s Chaka Worthy and Russian fighter, Sodik Ismoilov.

Worthy is the younger brother of the newly signed UFC prospect Khama Worthy who scored a knockout upset over Devonte Smith at UFC 241. Chaka looked to add to another win to his résumé and hopefully one day see his name appear on the UFC roster alongside his brother. The first step in the process was taking out Ismoilov. The fight marked Worthy’s second trip to the Maverick heptagon, coming off a unanimous decision win over Chris Disonell at Maverick 13 in June.  Unfortunately for Worthy, the night was not his as Imoilov smothered him the entire fight, denying the Pittsburgh fighter a win.

In the night’s co-main event, Jovany “Geo” Alvarez made his long awaited pro debut when he took on New York native Dilshod Zaripov.  Alvarez was stopped shortly after three minutes into the fight.

James Geiger took home some new hardware as he scored a unanimous decision win over Taj Blair to claim the Maverick MMA welterweight title.

Russ Korbul of Gracie New Jersey was able to get all three judges to score in his favor in his fight against Marcus Chin.  Korbul would later get on the microphone and plead with Sisca to be put on the Maverick 15 card when the promotion heads to Scranton.

Gabriela Valdez of 302 BJJ had her hand raised for the first time when she knocked out Melissa Gardner in the very first round.
