Maycee Barber lost sleep envisioning head-kick that led to win over Amanda Ribas
This past weekend at UFC Jacksonville, Maycee Barber made a big statement in the women’s flyweight division with her bloody war victory over Amanda Ribas. Barber took control of the fight in the second-round when she landed a head-kick that would begin to lead to the end for Ribas, as “The Future” would finish the fight with a ground-and-pound TKO in the second round.
Leading into the big win, Maycee Barber was experiencing some restlessness, as she envisioned the ending sequence that eventually led to her big victory. Making an appearance on ‘Won’t Back Down Radio‘ with Chris Weidman on Sirius XM, Barber detailed how her sleep during fight week was the “worst” it has been, because all she could think about was getting the finish over Ribas.
"I would literally feel my leg… and be like, 'this is going to land on her head.'"@MayceeBarber discusses why she had the worst sleep during fight week leading up to #UFCJacksonville 👀

“The whole goal of this camp was to be the best me possible and be ready to finish this girl. My mindset was ‘I’m going to finish this girl’ every single day that I would wake up I’m like ‘I’m going to finish this girl’ and every single night that I would go to bed I’m like ‘I’m going to finish this girl’ that was something I literally had constant thoughts about. Then on the fight week I was laying in bed, this was probably the worst sleep on a fight week, I have ever had.
Not because of a weight cut, not because of anything else other than I would lay in bed and feel my leg, I wouldn’t touch my leg, I would feel it. I’d be laying there and I’d feel it, and I’d be like “This is going to land on her head” and I was just so excited about it, I couldn’t sleep. It was insane cause I’d be up until 4 in the morning having my leg feel funny, my arms feel funny, I was like ‘I’m just going to hit her with all these things’ it was a lot of excitement and it felt really good to get that done.”
The stoppage victory was the first finish for Maycee Barber since 2019 and it was clear that she envisioned getting the stoppage, as she eluded to in her post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier.
