Melvin Guillard signs with Bellator MMA
Although a fight date or a named opponent have yet to be determined, former UFC and WSOF lightweight Melvin Guillard has signed to a multi-fight contract with Bellator MMA.
“We are excited to have Melvin coming onboard,” Bellator President Scott Coker stated. “With competitors the likes of lightweight champion Will Brooks, Michael Chandler, Marcin Held, Derek Anderson, Saad Awad, Dave Jansen and Patricky ‘Pitbull’ (Freire) on the roster already, the matchup possibilities for an exciting fighter like him are endless.”
Following a TKO win Gesias Cavalcante in his promotional debut, Guillard was scheduled to challenge Justin Gaethje for the WSOF lightweight title back in November. Guillard missed weight and forced the fight to become a non-title affair, which Gaethje won via split decision.
A planned WSOF 20 bout this past month between Guillard and Ozzy Dugulubgov was cancelled on just four days notice after the fighter failed to produce medical paperwork according to the organization. Over the past year Guillard had been very critical of management at WSOF while speaking with media, subsequently he was released from contract just a few short weeks ago.
