Urijah Faber retires

Michael Bisping surprsied Urijah Faber is returning

At UFC Sacramento, “The California Kid” Urijah Faber will return to the Octagon to take on Ricky Simon. It will be nearly three years since he last fought and at 40-years-old, some were surprised he was returning. But, he has mentioned his desire to return and has said he is in great shape.

However, it still is a surprise the Hall of Famer is returning. And, soon-to-be Hall of Famer, Michael Bisping was quite surprised by the announcement that Faber was back. He talked about out on a recent episode of his “Believe You Me” podcast.

“I was surprised cause by all accounts, Urijah Faber is a very very successful businessman. And no disrespect Urijah,” Bisping said. “Everybody loves the f*cking ‘California Kid.’ Yeah, he’s a very successful businessman, [he] has his fingers in a lot of pies even dabbling into movie producing these days. … So he’s keeping busy. He still has Team Alpha Male. They have this other new gym that they opened, which is a beautiful facility as well.”

Why Bisping thinks he returned was quite simple. Being around everyone at Team Alpha Male and training every day got his itch to return to fighting. And, he bets Faber was having success in the gym proving he still has it.

“I think it’s probably a case of, he’s around the gym, he’s working out with the guys still, he’s the head coach. And he’s like, ‘hold on a minute I’ve still f*cking got this. I maybe dominated some of the guys in there.’”

Whether he has it or not, fighting Ricky Simon is a tough task. The 26-year-old is 15-1 and coming off of a very impressive win over Ranu Yahya. There, the surging prospect showed he is a top-15 bantamweight in the world. And, not only that but other fighters in his gym have talked glowingly about Simon.

It will be a tough task for Urijah Faber’s return and Michael Bisping is quite surprised he is back.
