Michael Rakay defends cruiserweight title Saturday night at USKA Fight Night

Michael Rakay talks USKA

“Big Handsome Mike” Rakay has used mixed martial arts to change his life around.  Once a much bigger guy than he is now, along with being a heavy smoker, Rakay walked into a gym about seven years ago and fell in love with the sport.Michael Rakay, Dielco Souza, USKA Fight Night

Over the next few years as he was training jiu-jitsu, wrestling, and all of the necessary skills to compete in the cage.  That’s when Rakay truly found the passion for the striking game.

There he transitioned into a muay-thai fighter and is doing very well for himself.  Rakay is the current USKA Cruiserweight champ and in his hometown of Philadelphia, he welcomes contender, Dielco Souza into the ring.  The fight goes down this Saturday night, August 19, at the historic 2300 Arena.

Stay Fly

The champion has found a home at Stay-Fly Muay-Thai, where he has developed a great relationship with world class fighter and trainer, Justin “The Purple People Eater” Greskiewicz.

They train together on a regular basis and Rakay even has become an instructor at Stay-Fly.

He has several teammates who are also on this tremendous card put together by Irv Althouse and Jen Heffentrager.

“Irv runs a first class promotion and has always been honest with me.  I really like what USKA has going on.”

With the help of his very supportive wife Ashley, Mike has become one of the most exciting fighters around.  He finds time to have a career, a family, and train and fight at a very high level.  I had the pleasure of grabbing a few minutes with the defending champ, Michael Rakay, as he finishes his weight cut and final preparations for his battle in the main event.

If you are from the area, do yourself a favor and get down to USKA Fight Night.  It promises to be another amazing event.  We will be ringside with up to the minute results, amazing photos and post fight interviews.  Get tickets for the fight here.
