Mike Ricci – Ben Askren fued escalates on Twitter

Former Bellator welterweight champion and undefeated mixed martial artist, Ben “Funky” Askren (13-0) pulled off his first win outside the Bellator cage this past weekend with a win at the Singapore based promotion One FC 16.

Askren who is known primarily as a wrestler and is one of only a handful of champions who were released from contract with the organization where they held the belt was often at the center of criticism due to his fighting style.  Bellator President Bjorn Rebney realized Askren was not putting butts in seats and UFC President Dana White has many times acknowledged his disinterest for Askren’s arrival there as well.

So when Askren earned the victory over Bakhtiyar Abbasov via arm-triangle choke submission last weekend he was naturally happy and went to Twitter to gloat (which is his given right).

Askren said “Only been hit 6 times in my last 4 fights comined (spelling error on Askren’s part).  Hard to get competition when you are the best in the world.”

Well that comment didn’t sit well with former Ultimate Fighter contestant and finalist, Mike Ricci.

Ricci immediately jumped on the spelling error and called Askren a clown.  Then Askren returned fire calling Ricci a bum who couldn’t find.  Then Ricci called him boring and it kept going eventually getting to accusations being thrown by Askren that Ricci and fellow Tri-Star gym mate Rory MacDonald were a couple.
