Miranda Maverick puts it all together against Gillian Robertson at UFC 260

UFC 260: Miocic vs. Ngannou will takes place Saturday, March 27 from UFC APEX in Las Vegas. 

In the main event, a highly anticipated rematch between UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic and No. 1 ranked contender Francis Ngannou. In the co-main event, former UFC welterweight champion and No. 7 ranked contender Tyron Woodley squares off against No. 10 ranked Vicente Luque.

Before we get to that though, a matchup on the main card between rising prospects Gillian Robertson and Miranda Maverick compete in a flyweight bout.

Gillian Robertson (9-5), comes into this fight as the number #15 ranked fighter in the division – trying to take that number is relative newcomer Miranda Maverick (10-2).

Maverick, earned her UFC contract after riding a 3 fight win streak against Heather Walker-Leahy for Shogun Fights and then submitting DeAnna Bennett and outpointing Pearl Gonzalez for Invicta – which ultimately impressed the UFC hierarchy to sign the rising talent, and impress she did, on her UFC debut after she was looking great on the feet before landing a beautiful elbow up the middle which caused a serious gash to Jojua’s nose forcing the doctor to call an end to the fight, “Fear The” walks into the contest on a 4-fight winning streak.

Robertson, will be making her 9th appearance inside the octagon. Last time out she dropped a unanimous decision loss to Taila Santos in December – heading into that fight “The Savage” was coming off a 2-fight win streak against Cortney Casey and Poliana Botelho.

Here’s how the fight played out round by round:

ROUND 1:

Bruce Buffer introduces the pair of flyweights. The respect is shown – they touch gloves. Robertson opening up early trying to find her range. Maverick lands a one two that doesn’t seem to faze Robertson. Maverick is opening up, starting to land her combinations. Maverick using her IQ and staying at distance but Robertson lands a beautiful counter. Maverick returns with a combination. Maverick catches the kick and pushes Robertson down, Miranda uses her pressure on the ground. Robertson is up quick. Maverick level changes and lands a double leg at the end of the round.

ROUND 2:

Second round is underway. Maverick opens up early again and mixing it up well. Robertson lunges in and grabs the back of Maverick. Robertson is in half guard looking for a arm triangle. Maverick tries to scramble up and Robertson grabs the back once again. Maverick doesn’t settle for the position, Robertson is adjusting Maverick on the ground to remain in half guard. Maverick tried to stand up, Robertson hugs the back and drags her back down. Robertson tries to grab the neck, Maverick reverses the position and she’s back to her feet and right back to work at the end of the round.

ROUND 3:

Final round, Maverick comes out with some urgency and opens up with a high kick. Maverick starting to get loose and let her hands go more frequently. Robertson shoots Maverick sprawls and grabs the back with hooks in! Maverick twists her body to get into mount. Robertson scrambling for dear life. Robertson forces another scramble and Maverick is in full guard.  Robertson doesn’t settle being on the bottom and throws up a arm bar – Maverick does well and avoids the submission, we are back on the feet. Doesn’t take long for Maverick to attempt another takedown and she dumps Robertson back to the canvas, she steps and kicks the legs to end the fight.
