The “Sugar Show” continues, Sean O’Malley scores huge KO

In the night’s main event, UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic will look to successfully defend his strap against hard-hitting Francis Ngannou. The two men met previously, in 2018, with Miocic getting his hand raised with a win by unanimous decision.

In the evening’s co-main event, former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley looks to bounce back from a string of losses as he takes on submission artist Vicente Luque.

In a bantamweight matchup, “Sugar” Sean O’Malley looks to get back in the win column taking on Thomas Almeida.

Almeida, coming into this bout looking to snap a 3 fight losing streak. At one time 21-0, Almeida hasn’t been able to find his stride in the Octagon just yet, going 1-3 in the promotion. However, a win tonight for Thomas could prove to be the redemption he needs to jump-start his UFC run.

“Sugar” Sean O’Malley is looking to bounce back into the win column following a first-round defeat to Marlon Vera. O’Malley garnered his popularity with his rise after his viral KO on Dana Whites Contender Series. Since then, “The Sugar Show” has been on the rise, blasting to the upper echelon of the rankings. A win over Almeida puts him right back in the spotlight where he’s become accustomed. A loss could prove detrimental to his momentum.

Round 1: O’Malley opens up the bout with a plethora of kicks. Almeida is forced to work from the outside due to O’Malley’s height and range. O’Malley starts working his feints early. He fires successful front kicks. Almeida forces a combination. O’Malley avoids any damage and returns with a thunderous front kick to the mid-section. O’Malley gets flashy with a spinning back kick. Almeida attempts to take advantage of the blind spin, looking to land heavy. O’Malley gets on the outside and lands a crisp jab-straight right. O’Malley lands a brutal head kick, dropping Almeida. O’Malley thinks the fight is over and walks off. To his dismay, the referee hasn’t seen enough and insists the fight continues. O’Malley gets back to work looking to finish in impressive style with a spinning hook kick that misses. Almeida slowly recovers and escapes the round avoiding any more significant damage.

Round 2: O’Malley starts with a front kick and follows with a nasty leg kick. He attempts the spinning hook kick but it’s Almeida that sweeps O’Malley off his feet. O’Malley gets to his feet and the calf kicks the lead leg of Almeida several times. O’Malley is keeping it confusing, switching stances and throwing at awkward angles. “Sugar” lands a crisp one-two upstairs and mixes it up downstairs and upstairs. Almeida is attempting to stay in the fight with his desperate attempts to charge forward. With one minute left in the round, O’Malley steps on the gas looking to utilize his technical prowess to take out Almeida. Mixing it up with technical punches, O’Malley is looking to finish. Almeida is able to land two inside leg kicks and backs O’Malley against the fence to take him off his feet. O’Malley looked for upkicks from his back for the remainder of the round.

Round 3: O’Malley starts the round with calf kicks, looking to slow Almeida down. Almeida misses a leg kick. O’Malley lands a brutal leg kick, landing flush. Almeida starts aggressively pressing forward while O’Malley picks him apart from the outside, making Almeida miss. A spinning back kick to crisp punches, O’Malley is securing the fight as time is winding down. Almeida is attempting to stay game and get a rhythm but continues to get beaten to the punch. Almeida continues his aggression as O’Malley lands a picture-perfect short right hand that takes Almeida’s legs away. O’Malley thinks he has finished the job, similar to the first round, and begins to walk away. However, seeing the referee not diving in to stop the contest, O’Malley sizes up a downed Almeida and unloads a right hand, knocking Almeida unconscious.
