Post a successful debut edition, the premier mixed martial arts organization, MTV Super Fight League is gearing up for its second edition to be hosted at MTV SFL Arena, Famous Studios from 9th February 2018 to 17th March 2018.
Promoted by British business tycoon Bill Dosanjh and professional boxer Amir Khan, the league has elevated mixed martial arts into the second most viewed sport in India, second only to cricket. It’s interesting to note how this league is cultivating a new wave of MMA fighters for the four billion dollar industry.
Bill Dosanjh states, “I am thankful to all the stakeholders for believing in our vision and joining hands in delivering something which will soon be a symbol of aspiration for the youth across the globe.”
Formed in 2012 with an intent to give Indian mixed martial artists a platform to compete and hone their talent in their country of origin whilst bringing in talented fighters from different parts of the world, SFL is a revolutionary approach to combat and is the first MMA organization to feature female fighters and promote gender equality.
Having garnered over a whopping 100 million views in 5 years for 67 live televised events, Super Fight League is ranked as the third biggest mixed martial arts brand in the world.
The first-ever franchise format MMA sports league, which is put together under the vigilance of the All-India Mixed Martial Arts Association (AIMMAA), consists of 8 franchise teams with top ranking celebrity backers housing a total of 96 fighters.
The teams are divided into Group A and Group B with twelve qualifying events over 4 weeks. Post this, the semi-finals and finals will be held on the 5th and 6th weeks with a total prize pool of INR 4 crores throughout the season.
An unprecedented scoring system is also utilized to have the fighters compete in a team environment and not for individual championship titles.
