Nate Landwehr breaks Austin Lingo, picks up submission victory at UFC on ESPN 43

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returned to us tonight, March 25, 2023, for UFC on ESPN 43, going down live from the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Headlining the event is a bantamweight showdown between a pair of dangerous finishers in no. 3 ranked Marlon Vera (20-7-1) and no. 5 ranked Cory Sandhagen (15-4).

Co-headlining is also a bantamweight clash, this one coming between former UFC bantamweight champion Holly Holm (14-6) and former Invicta FC bantamweight champion Yana Santos (14-6, 1 NC).

Our feature fight of the evening came at 145 lbs between former M-1 Challenge featherweight champion Nate Landwehr (17-4) and his opponent Austin Lingo (9-2).

Landwehr was originally slated to face Alex Caceres at this event, and Lingo is coming off three-straight cancelled bouts prior to this one remaining intact.

Landwehr and Lingo both came into tonight’s bout on their own respective two-fight win streaks.

Official Result: Nate Landwehr def. Austin Lingo via submission (rear naked choke) at 4:11 of round two

Lingo backs Landwehr up to the fence early with heavy boxing combinations, though Landwehr is eventually able to circle his way out of danger.

Landwehr keeps the fight in the center of the octagon through the remaining four or so minutes of the first, and though the striking totals were close, Landwehr is certainly the cleaner striker of the two.

Landwehr begins to really break Lingo in the second with his never ending pace. His hands were landing well and his timing was great. Landwehr lands a nice head kick with about 90 seconds left in the middle stretch, and throws two more immediately following.

Landwehr then takes Lingo down and reigns down some punches from top position prior to taking Lingo’s back. From here it was only a matter of time before Lingo was forced to tap.

Nate Landwehr is now on a three-fight win streak following his stoppage victory over Austin Lingo at UFC on ESPN 43.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
