Ohio Combat League returns with back-to-back nights in Newark

Ohio Combat League returns to the Cherry Valley Hotel & Event Center in Newark, Ohio on March 5 and 6 with a spectacular lineup up mixed martial arts action which will be broadcast live via iPPV.

Based out of central Ohio, OCL whichis owned by Troy Speakman, will now enter into double digits when the promotion hosts their 10th and 11th fight cards on back-to-back nights.

“Matching during COVID is tough,” said Nichole Castillo, matchmaker for the promotion. “There are so many more stipulations on top of COVID closing so many gyms and a lot of fighters quit training as a result of it.”

“As this whole disease has made things difficult, sacrifice is the key word. We all have to in some capacity, sacrifice, to make shows happen,” Castillo said. “Our spectator limit is so very small here in Ohio. Two events makes for more opportunities for fighters and fans alike to get to participate and enjoy this sport that we love.”

In the main event of OCL 10, Tobiaus “Freight Train” Taylor (3-3) takes on Jerrell “Thunderkat” Hodge (6-3). This professional fight will take place at a catchweight of 140lbs.

Taylor was on a three fight win streak before it was snapped by a split decision loss. He hasn’t fought since 2019 but jumped at the opportunity of this matchup. Hodge returned after a three year layoff at OCL 9 to finish his opponent in the first round with a rear-naked choke submission. With no injures sustained in the fight, Hodge makes his return after just four weeks for another main event. This fight is between the #2 and #5 ranked bantamweights in Ohio according to Tapology, with both fighters looking to make a move to the top.

Taylor trains at Rising Dragon MMA fighting out of Cleveland, Ohio while Hodge trains at Ares Combat in Macedonia.
