ONE Championship Strawweight Kickboxing King: Jonathan Di Bella

Kickboxing enthusiasts worldwide anticipated the action-packed matchup between Jonathan Di Bella and “The Fighting Rooster” Zhang Peimian to be action packed. What transpired on fight night for the vacant ONE Strawweight kickboxing world title, was nothing short of spectacular. The fans got their wish and this championship bout lived up to the hype.
 
“There was a bit of nerves,” says Di Bella when he looks back and reflects on his recent championship win. “I wanted to win this belt badly,” he continues. “Everybody was talking about him. They were hyping him up. They didn’t really know me because I hadn’t fought for ONE before.”
 
Both fighters entered the ring, putting their impressive undefeated record on the line. For Di Bella, it would be his first outing under the ONE platform.
 
The two combatants met in the center and traded furious kicks and punches for five hard fought rounds.  The bout in its entirety was an instant classic. The strawweight contenders went head-to-head and blow for blow for the entire duration of the fight.
 
The fight could arguably be scored a draw through the fourth round with the fifth and final round being the deciding factor. In the midst of a heated fifth round, Di Bella landed a perfectly timed head kick, dropping “The Fighting Rooster” in his tracks for the count. Peimian beat the count and continued to fight until the bout concluded but the knockdown sealed the deal for Di Bella.
 
In the end, the judges gave the nod to the Canadian-Italian superstar, Di Bella via unanimous decision, crowning him the new and undisputed ONE strawweight kickboxing king of the world.
