Shinya Aoki’s finish of former ONE welterweight world title contender James Nakashima got the nod for top ONE Championship submission of 2021.

The fight at ONE: Unbreakable in January between Aoki and Nakashima read as quite intriguing on paper. But the former was able to sneakily take the back of the latter.

Aoki masterfully secured quite the painful neck crank while Nakashima remained in a standing position along the wall.

The decorated Japanese submission artist logged two submission wins last year. Which makes him the all-time leader in ONE Championship submissions with nine taps elicited inside the confines of the Circle.

The other submission win Aoki garnered in 2021 came in a rubber match with Eduard Folayang. A victory that transpired at ONE on TNT IV in late April.

Adriano Moraes’ grounded knee stoppage victory over Demetrious Johnson earned the distinction of ONE Championship’s 2021 KO of the year. This ONE flyweight world championship fight went down at ONE on TNT I in early April.

The decorated UFC flyweight titleholder and ONE flyweight Grand Prix champion had a lot of momentum and many favoured DJ leading into this title bid.

But Moraes showcased why he is the most decorated ONE flyweight world champion in the history of the company.

Among the Super Series combatants, Superbon was the glaringly obvious choice for KO of the year in 2021. This after generating what many have pointed as being the best knockout of the year regardless of promotional banner, all factors considered.

Giorgio Petrosyan is seen by many as the kickboxing GOAT and rode a seven-year unbeaten streak heading into that mid October bout. The Doctor being flatline KOed stiff at ONE: First Strike was an anomalous visual to say the least.

An incredible feather in a featherweight’s cap as Superbon also cemented himself as the inaugural ONE kickboxing champ in that weight category.
