Paulo Costa Not Convinced Israel Adesanya is That Great

Paulo Costa was not impressed with Israel Adesanya’s performance at UFC 234. The number six ranked UFC middleweight went three rounds against Anderson Silva where he won by unanimous decision. The fight was said to be a number one contender fight and Costa does not think Adesanya should get the shot.

After Adesanya and Silva fought their three-round main event, while everyone was admiring the skill displayed by both men, Costa did not see it the way others did and claimed on social media (to the wrong handle) Adesanya would not “survive 2 rounds’ with the number seven ranked Costa.

Costa is scheduled to face number one ranked, Yoel Romero in April, which could very well make his next fight a title shot if he gets past Romero. Romero fought the current champion, Robert Whittaker, twice losing by decision both times. Since entering the UFC, Costa is on a four-fight win streak and he has finished all four opponents by TKO. The most notable of his wins being the most recent one over Uriah Hall at UFC 226.

Adesanya not only picked up a milestone victory over a former champion in Silva, but he is now carrying 16 wins on his mixed martial arts record making a fight with him worthy of main-eventing a pay-per-view and highly marketable.

UFC 234 surely showed that the torch is being passed on to a younger generation of fighters and a matchup between two middleweights in their prime would certainly bring about the fireworks both these fighters are known for. Costa has no easy task in Romero in April but a fight in 2019 between Costa and Adesanya would be one the hardcore MMA fans would not want to miss.
