PFL 5 Official Weigh-in Results: Efrain Escudero Scrapped
The official weigh-ins occurred this Wednesday at the Long Island Marriott in Uniondale, New York. Efrain Escudero misses weight and his PFL 5 bout has been scrapped. Ceremony weigh-ins take place today at 4 PM and will air on Facebook Watch.
The lightweight bout between Islam Mamedov and Efrain Escudero was scrapped due to the New York State Athletic Commission’s rule which states fighters must be within a specific weight range each other to compete. A rule commonly used on the amateur MMA scene that prevents fighters showing up overweight and prevents injuries to fighters.
The Mexican fighter, Efrain Escudero (30-13) has missed weight for a second time under the PFL banner. Today he weighed in at 163.2, seven pounds over the agreed upon weight limit of 155. Escudero’s opponent, Islam Mamedov is being awarded the win in the PFL lightweight standings, while the Mexican born fighter is taking a loss. Mamedov weighed in at 155.2, within the one-pound allowance provided to the athletes.
The first time Escudero missed weight was at PFL 2, where he earned a third-round submission over Jason High. Since he missed weight, he wasn’t awarded his four bonus points for finishing the fight in the final round. Escudero was sitting at sixth in the rankings ahead of eight winless fighters in the division, now taking the loss, and not earning any points, Escudero is eliminated from the PFL playoffs.
In addition to the win, PFL President Carlos Silva said Mamedov will receive three points and show money for the event, According to Newsday.com.
Long Island MMA’s Chris Wade checked in at 155.2 on the scales.
