REPORT: Rachael Ostovich attacked, hospitalized in Hawaii
According to a report from TMZ, UFC flyweight fighter Rachael Ostovich was attacked in Hawaii and has been hospitalized, possibly with severe injuries. The attack happened at 2 a.m. Sunday morning at a residence in the Waianae section of Honolulu County.
Honolulu police tell TMZ they have opened a felony domestic violence investigation. It appears that the attacker was related or closely known by the 27-year old mixed martial artist.
The report states that injuries may include a broken orbital bone.
Ostovich was scheduled to fight Paige VanZant on January 19, 2019 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The story is still developing but it appears as if that fight will be in jeopardy.
Earlier this year another UFC flyweight fighter was allegedly attacked by family member. MyMMANews first reported that Andrea Lee was allegedly attacked by husband and then trainer and owner of Karate Mafia, Donny Aaron. A warrant for Aaron’s arrest was issued. He still has not been brought into custody.
More to follow as this story updates.
Update:
Further reports suggest that Ostovich’s husband, Arnold Berdon, who is also an MMA fighter, is the alleged attacker.
Later Monday night, Ostovich’s Sucker Punch Entertainment management released a statement regarding the situation and confirming that Ostovich is out of the fight with VanZant.
“A very unfortunate incident occurred Sunday night with Rachael Ostovich that ended with her suffering a fractured orbital and other injuries,” the statement read. … “Rachael is now home from the hospital with family and will be going back for further check ups on her orbital. The family would like to ask for some privacy as they sort through this matter. We would like to thank the UFC for all their support on this matter as well as the fans and media for your concern.”
