Rafael Dos Anjos injured, out of UFC 196 headliner against Conor McGregor

Rafael Dos Anjos calls out Conor McGregor following UFC Orlando: “I earned this fight”

Former UFC lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos called out Conor McGregor following his big win at UFC Orlando, saying that “I earned this fight.”

Dos Anjos picked up another incredible victory to add to his Hall of Fame resume when he submitted Bryan Barberena at UFC Orlando. For Dos Anjos, it was a huge win for him after he moved back up to the UFC welterweight division. However, it doesn’t appear as though he moved up in weight in order to chase the UFC welterweight title. Instead, it seems like dos Anjos is just looking for the biggest fights possible, and McGregor is the biggest fight out there.

Dos Anjos and McGregor were originally supposed to meet back in 2016, but dos Anjos had to withdraw due to injury and Nate Diaz stepped up on short notice, beating McGregor. All these years later, dos Anjos still has a bone to pick with McGregor, who he still wants to fight. Following his big win over Barberena, dos Anjos took the mic and he called out the Irishman.

Speaking to the media at the UFC Orlando post-fight press conference, dos Anjos once again reaffirmed his desire to fight McGregor, and he said he would be happy to fight him next July.

“Look at my resume, I fought everybody. I need to fight somebody, I think I earned this fight. I will not ask UFC for extra crazy paydays, I just want to have that fight. And yeah, July works perfect for me. We’ll see what happens,” dos Anjos said (h/t MMAjunkie.com).

The UFC typically holds its International Fight Week in Las Vegas every July with a massive pay-per-view card. If McGregor will take it, then dos Anjos will happily fight him then. Now, let’s see if the UFC itself as a promotion is interested in this fight between the two legends.

Do you want to see the UFC rebook the Rafael dos Anjos vs. Conor McGregor fight, and who do you think would win this match in 2023 if it happens?
