Raufeon Stots Has Desk Duty for Bellator 282

Raufeon Stots will have desk duty at Bellator 282. Stots will be taking his first role on broadcast duty but as the interim bantamweight champ, he’s got a vested interest in the two Grand Prix bouts scheduled at Mohegan Sun this Friday night.

The champ was in attendance at the ceremonial weigh-ins and did a quick scrum with the media in attendance to let fans know, “They put me on the desk” for Bellator 282.

Stots’ obvious stake as the champion will likely have him watching the bantamweight Grand Prix bouts closely. Leandro Higo versus Danny Sabatello and Enrique Barzola versus Magomed Magomedov leaves a lot of speculation for at least three of those four men to speculate about. Having fought and won against Magomedov, the other three men as possible matchups for Stots should make fans happy, but one fight, in particular, seems to be more fun for Stots.

Stots’ grin emerged when he mentioned the Higo and Sabatello fight. “The Higo and Sabatello fight is super exciting. I’m trying to save talking trash or coming at them because I want them both to perform to the best of their abilities. But I’m super excited to get my hands on one of those guys.”

Stots should probably not play poker because his expression and some of what he said made it seem like he definitely wants Sabatello because the lead-up is just what today’s MMA fans would look forward to.

When MyMMANews pressed him about his preference, Stots said, “ I feel like Higo would be a tougher fight. But Sabatello, he’s got a lot of eyes on him now because he’s got a big mouth and I’d love to be the one who shuts his mouth.”

Sabatello mentioned mental warfare at the Bellator 282 media day and while it may seem like he has the edge in that against Higo, Stots doesn’t think that would be the case if they face each other.

“I would engage back at him,” Stots said, and that he would, “say some things that would get under his skin, (laughs) I got some funny things to say or whatever. But I don’t want to stir him up before his fight.”

That’s the right idea because the fights have to happen before anyone starts looking too far ahead. Bellator 282 airs tomorrow night on SHOWTIME at 9 p.m. EST, keep it locked on MyMMANews.com for live results.
