Rory Macdonald to face Tyron Woodley UFC 174
Rory “Ares” Macdonald (16-2) will square off against Tyron “The Chosen One” Woodley in a welterweight match up to determine the number one contender in an already stacked division. The fight is to take place at UFC 174 on June 14, 2014, in Vancouver, B.C.
Woodley last fought at UFC 171 against another former number one contender, Carlos Condit. It was an impressive victory to boost Woodley’s stock. Woodley dominated the match, and Condit suffered a lower leg injury in the second round losing via TKO. Macdonald last fought in February at UFC 170, winning via unanimous decision over jiu jitsu specialist Demian Maia.
The winner of this match could potentially face welterweight champion Johny “Bigg Rigg” Hendricks in the late fall (possibly November). Hendricks (16-2) just recently underwent bicep surgery following his victory over Robbie Lawler. The two battled for the welterweight title which was vacated by Georges St. Pierre.
