Rudson Caliocane suffers brain stem hemorrhage, forfeits Titan FC title

A devastating injury sustained by 26-year old Rudson Caliocane (7-2) could keep him from competing in professional mixed martial arts ever again.  Caliocane, a native of Brazil, won the then vacant Titan Fighting Championship bantamweight title with a unanimous decision victory over Edir Terry at Titan FC 52 in January.

Since that time, Caliocane has not fought under the Titan FC banner.  With the permission of the Florida based promotion, Caliocane took a fight  in his home country of Brazil on October 19.  He was paired up against Matheus Mendonca for Future FC at an event held in Sao Paulo.  The contest would go the distance but the effects from the fight will lead the professional mixed martial artist down a long road of recovery.

Statement from Rudson Caliocane

“To my fans,

With the approval of Titan FC, I took a fight last week in Sao Paulo, Brazil, unfortunately I suffered a hemorrhage of my brain stem. It is not clear if or when I might be able to fight again. Because of this, I have decided to vacate my Titan FC Bantamweight World Championship Title, out of fairness to the division, and to Titan FC and Lex McMahon (COO) who has given me the opportunity to fight for and hold the belt, and have treated me so well. Hopefully, I can come back and reconquer the Titan FC Bantamweight division in the near future. However, for now I must concentrate on on my health and getting better.

Thank you to all!

Sincerely

Rudson Caliocane”

What is a hemorrhage of the brain stem?
The brain stem controls essential bodily functions, such as breathing, swallowing, and balance. A blockage or a bleed in the brain stem can affect these vital roles and can result in severe long term complications.

What does the recovery process look like?
Treatment for a hemorrhage to the brain stem is complex and may include medication, therapy, and surgery. A full recovery can take many months if not years.

Statement from Rudson’s manager, Alex Davis:

“ Rudson suffered a very serious and unfortunate injury. He will face a very difficult and long battle untill he can fight again. He needs all the help he can get.”

Statement from Titan FC COO, Lex McMahon:

“Unfortunately, our reigning Bantamweight champion, Rudson Caliocane recently suffered a serious Injury to his brain stem. Our thoughts and prayers are with Rudson as he navigates a difficult and uncertain recovery process. In light of his injury and the uncertainty related to his timetable to return to competition Rudson has elected to vacate his title so he can focus his energy on making a full recovery. In the event that Rudson is medically cleared to return to competition he will immediately challenge for the title he is now vacating. Titan FC in conjunction with Rudson’s long time manager, Alex Davis will be launching a GoFundMe campaign and Titan FC will donate a percentage of ticket sales from our upcoming event on December 20th to raise proceeds to help aid Rudson with the substantial costs associated with his recovery. We wish the champ all the best and a speedy recovery!”

McMahon also put out a video announcement:

How soon are funds needed?
Rudson has already begun receiving treatment and is incurring substantial costs every day. He needs financial help immediately.
