Saenchai and Buakaw poised for legacy bout at BKFC Thailand 5

It’s very seldom we get two fighters who transcend their respective niche sport at roughly the same time. Saenchai and Buakaw, two of Muay Thai’s all time elite, have done just that. Despite their huge fanbases, the two have never actually competed with each other. That is astounding to think when the records of these two fighters are 240-24-14 2NC (Buakaw), and 317-41-6 (Saenchai). That all changes this weekend at BKFC Thailand 5 where the two will face off in a special rules bare knuckle bout.

Saenchai vs. Buakaw: Fun and for Legacy

Going into Buakaw vs. Saenchai, fans shouldn’t expect a war. This fight, which is basically a Kard Chuek bout, is meant to celebrate the two icons of the sport in the twilight of their careers. As the two rocketed past what it meant to be a Thai boxer, they also brought eyeballs from abroad to a sport who’s country is from South East Asia that’s smaller than the state of Texas.

Saenchai will be making his BKFC debut but Buakaw has had a bout already. In September of 2022, he beat Erkan Varol via first round knockout.

This bout will not be bare knuckle boxing. This time, the promotion will allow Buakaw and Saenchai to fight in their native sport of Muay Thai but without gloves.

It is unclear what types of wraps both Saenchai and Buakaw will have. Kard Chuek is a Thai sport that’s bare knuckle Muay Thai with rope wraps, which are pictured above. Should BKFC opt for that, it would be the ultimate homage to the two fighters sand the sport’s roots.

You can catch Saenchai vs. Buakaw tomorrow on FITE.tv live! The bout is a historic victory lap for both fighters and will be a sight you will not want to miss.
