Scott Heckman vs. Rob Sullivan rematch to headline Maverick MMA 3

The first outing between Scott Heckman and Rob Sullivan was one that will not escape recent memory.  It was a fight for the ages; one of the best brawls you will ever see on a regional promotion.

These two combatants with strong wrestling pedigrees stood toe-to-toe in the main event of Maverick MMA 2 from the Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, July 1.

Now, these two featherweights will meet once again.  Heckman will defend the 145-pound title which he won earlier this month, when he meets Sullivan for rounds four through six, September 30.  “The Animal” won a split decision victory to claim the inaugural Maverick MMA featherweight title and felt that Sullivan was such a tough test that it was only right to book the rematch.

Heckman, 33, returned to mixed martial arts earlier this year after a brief retirement from the sport.  Since his return, “The Animal” has won two straight, both under the Maverick MMA umbrella.

Now holding a pro MMA record of 23-8, Heckman is ranked as the number two lightweight in Pennsylvania, although currently fighting at featherweight.

Sullivan, also 33, moved to 7-7 with the loss to Heckman, but the Parkville, Maryland native will be looking to even the score when the two meet again in September.

Maverick MMA promoter Willy Sisca said he already has nine or ten fights booked for the organization’s third card.

The venue will soon be determined.
