Scott Heckman vs. Peter Petties title fight headlines Maverick 11

Scott “The Animal” Heckman (27-9) will return to his home at Maverick MMA when he defends his featherweight title against Peter Petties, January 12, 2019.  The Maverick 11 fight card takes place at the Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.

Heckman, who remains unbeaten in the Maverick MMA heptagon since arriving there in 2017, ventured to Ring of Combat earlier this year to challenge for the organization’s title.  While finding early success in the fight against ROC champion Bill Algeo, Heckman would suffer his first loss since January 2016.

The January 12 bout against Petties marks Heckman’s fifth Maverick MMA title defense since he captured the strap back at Maverick MMA 2.

“The Joker” Petties, is coming off a unanimous decision win over Jordan Morales at King of the Cage in October.  The 27-year old veteran of the profession, sports a 7-4 record and competed on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series where he tried to earn a win over Julio Arce and make his way to the UFC.  Petties lost the bout but then bounced back with a win over Robert Sullivan at Shogun Fights 8.

Sullivan took Heckman to deep waters twice in the Maverick cage, losing one by split decision and another by unanimous decision.

“Peter Petties is an absolute stud. He has fought some of the toughest guys in the region and has fought on the big stage in front of Dana White on the Contender Series. This will be Scott’s toughest fight to date,” promoter Willy Sisca said of the matchup.

“‘The Animal’ returns home to the Heptagon to defend his belt and this fight is building up to be the biggest of his career. Maverick fans will be in for a treat on January 12th as these 2 warriors go to battle for the Featherweight Championship,” Sisca told MyMMANews.

Tickets go on sale today at 3:00PM.  Information on the Maverick MMA Facebook page.
