Sean O’Malley stops Kris Moutinho in the third

Referee Herb Dean saw enough as Sean O’Malley defeated Kris Moutinho via third-round TKO in a lop-sided affair UFC 264 on Saturday, July 10.

O’Malley landed the more significant strikes and higher volume throughout the entirety of the fight, but Moutinho kept coming forward. During an exchange in the third, Dean called a stoppage, causing an uproar from the crowd. Moutinho protested the stoppage.

O’Malley improves to 14-1.

The score will finally settle when Dustin Poirier meets former UFC double champion Conor McGregor in the trilogy at UFC 264 on Saturday, July 10. 

A pair of top five welterweights in Gilbert Burns and Stephen Thompson clash in the co-main event inside a sold-out T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. 

Kicking off the night is the “Sugar Show” Sean O’Malley, who welcomes UFC newcomer Kris Moutinho. 

O’Malley is back on track after knocking out Thomas Almeida in the third round at UFC 260 last March. It marked O’Malley’s first fight back since suffering his lone defeat, a first-round TKO loss to Marlon Vera at UFC 252 this past August.

Moutinho makes his octagon debut on 11 days notice. Previously scheduled to fight for the vacant Cage Fury Fighting Championships bantamweight strap in August, Moutinho puts on the gloves early to make a statement under the UFC banner.

Moutinho is on a two-fight win streak, most recently submitting Andre Salas in the third round at CFFC 96 last March.

ROUND 1

Moutinho is the aggressor, coming forward. Moutinho is being pieced up by O’Malley early. O’Malley establishing leg kicks, but Moutinho keeps coming forward. O’Malley is operating on the outside, outpointing Moutinho. Moutinho is not moving his head, keeps taking the punishment. Moutinho trying to play it off. O’Malley hitting Moutinho with everything. Moutinho gets dropped, but is saved by the bell

Moutinho sticks to the game plan. Moutinho lands some strikes, but O’Malley is landing the more significant strikes, as well as higher volume. O’Malley on the outside, but landing more. Moutinho’s face is showing the punishment. No quit in Moutinho, he keeps coming forward. Moutinho lands a solid right hand. O’Malley is being pushed, but still outshining Moutinho.

Moutinho keeps coming again. Moutinho is getting pieced up, but keeps coming forward. O’Malley is picking up the pace, both guys letting their hands fly. Looks like both men are having fun, some showmanship. Moutinho just keeps coming. O’Malley landing more punches. The two are trading. O’Malley keeps pouring it on, Moutinho comes forward, but referee Herb Deans steps in. Crowd disagrees, Moutinho protests it.
