Song Yadong one-punch KO’s Marlon Moraes at UFC Vegas 50

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, March 12, 2022, for UFC Vegas 50, headlined by light-heavyweight contenders Thiago Santos and Magomed Ankalaev.

Co-headlining the event is a bantamweight contest between former WSOF bantamweight champion Marlon Moraes, who faces a very promising Song Yadong here tonight.

Moraes is one of the better bantamweights this sport has ever seen, though he’s hit a bit of a rough patch lately, going 1-4 in his last five. All four defeats coming via knockout, and the lone defeat coming via split decision to Jose Aldo.

Yadong had a little bit of a rough streak there as well, going 1-1-1 in three fights that probably should’ve seen him lose three-straight. However, he’s on a two-fight win streak coming into this one, and this should be an epic battle between two incredibly dangerous strikers.

Does the former champion remain in the top 10, or do we see a new contender emerge?

Continue reading to see how this bantamweight co-main event went down:

Official Result: Song Yadong def. Marlon Moraes via KO (punch) at 2:06 of round one

Yadong drops Moraes early with a quick overhand right, though Moraes is right back to his feet.

Perhaps not the greatest start for the former world champion?

Yadong then continues pressing Moraes, landing some hard shots, while Moraes is landing some of his own as well.

Moraes is then caught with a three-punch combination, ending with a vicious uppercut that knocked him unconscious. This goes to show you, this is a young mans game more often than not.

Nonetheless, we now have a new top contender at 135 lbs!

Song Yadong defeated his first world champion tonight, and at just 24 years old, now on a three-fight win streak, two-fight knockout streak, the future couldn’t look much brighter for him.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
