Song Yadong vs Ricky Simon added to UFC Fight Night 223

We’ve just been informed of an incredibly exciting bantamweight clash going down at UFC Fight Night 223, as no. 8 ranked Song Yadong (19-7-1) is slated to face no. 10 ranked Ricky Simon (20-3).

It is unclear at the moment whether or not this will be the main event of the evening or a three-round encounter.

UFC Fight Night 223 is to go down on April 22, 2023, live from a to-be-determined venue.

Song Yadong has been an impressive talent ever since joining the UFC roster back in 2017 with a record of 11-5.

The young Chinaman initially went 5-0-1 through his first six octagon bouts prior to his first defeat coming to Kyler Phillips. Since then, Yadong has gone 3-1, defeating the likes of Casey Kenney (SD), Julio Arce (TKO), and former WSOF champion Marlon Moraes (KO), while most recently losing to Cory Sandhagen (TKO) in his latest appearance back in September of last year.

Ricky Simon on the other hand has been on a very impressive run as of late.

Coming to the UFC with a record of 12-1 as the LFA bantamweight champion, Simon would win his first three octagon bouts, one of which came over current no. 3 ranked Merab Dvalishvili (guillotine choke), before he would lose his next two bouts to former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber (TKO) and Rob Font (UD).

Since then, Simon has won his last five-straight against the likes of former flyweight title challenger Ray Borg (SD), Gaetano Pirrello (arm-triangle choke), Brian Kelleher (UD), Raphael Assuncao (KO), and 16-0 Jack Shore (arm-triangle choke).

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
