Cody Stamann stops Eddie Wineland in one minute at UFC on ESPN 37

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, June 18, 2022, for UFC on ESPN 37, going down live from the Moody Center in Austin, Texas.

Headlining the event is a featherweight bout between a pair of ranked contenders in Calvin Kattar (23-5) and Josh Emmett (17-2), and co-headlining is a welterweight showcase between Kevin Holland and Tim Means, as Donald Cerrone versus Joe Lauzon fell through on fight day for the second time in a row this spring.

Cody Stamann and Eddie Wineland faced off in the middle of the preliminary card in a bantamweight match up.

Wineland, the first ever world bantamweight champion in MMA, has gone 1-4 over his last five contests, while Stamann has lost his last three-straight, bringing his record from 19-2-1 to 19-5-1.

Stamann catches Wineland with a right hard early and hurts him. He follows up with a barrage of punches, before clinching to land some nasty knees. Following the break of the clinch, Stamann gets back to work with his boxing, before tying up to land some knees again.

All it took was one more barrage of punches following this and boom, it was all over just one minute into the fight.

Cody Stamann improves his record to 20-5-1 with this victory over a former champion that just isn’t quite as durable as he once was.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
