Ricardo Ramos spinning elbow KO’s Danny Chavez at UFC on ESPN 37

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, June 18, 2022, for UFC on ESPN 37, going down live from the Moody Center in Austin, Texas.

Headlining the event is a featherweight bout between a pair of ranked contenders in Calvin Kattar (23-5) and Josh Emmett (17-2), and co-headlining is a welterweight showcase between Kevin Holland and Tim Means, as Donald Cerrone versus Joe Lauzon fell through on fight day for the second time in a row this spring.

Brazilian talent Ricardo Ramos faced off with Danny Chavez in the preliminary feature fight of the evening.

Ramos was coming into the bout coming off a unanimous decision defeat to Zuba Tukhugov, while Chavez was coming off a draw with Kai Kamaka III. Continue reading to see how this featherweight contest went down:

Official Result: Ricardo Ramos def. Danny Chavez via KO (spinning back elbow) at 1:12 of round one

Ramos comes out throwing all sorts of flashy strikes, kind of like Conor McGregor did when he fought Dustin Poirier the first time. All those flashy kicks set up his left hand.

Well, all those flashy kicks set up Ramos’ spinning back elbow, which he landed perfectly to secure the first round stoppage before even giving Chavez a chance to get going.

Still at just 26 years of age, Ricardo Ramos has a very bright future ahead of him. He’s very dangerous on the mat, as he’s a BJJ black belt, and his striking is just hard to predict and prepare for.

What a night of fights we’ve had already! Four knockouts throughout the first five.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
