Stamp Fairtex says opponent Angela Lee is her “idol”

There is an old saying about your idols one day becoming your rivals, but the meaning usually correlates with a younger person one day taking on and or challenging that of an older individual.

On March 26 in Singapore, a pair or women excelling in the combat arts, will collide in the main event of ONE Championship‘s 10-year-anniversary show, aptly called ONE: X.

Stamp Fairtex (8-1) and Angela Lee (10-2) will meet for the ONE strawweight championship.

Fairtex, 24, and Lee, 25, are extremely close in age, but each is making a name for themselves as arguably the promotion’s top female athlete.

“I see and praise [Lee] as my idol because of her fighting style and how determined she is,” Fairtex said ahead of next week’s showdown. “She is a different person in the ring. Out of the ring, she is a cheerful and friendly person, but once she gets in the cage, there is no giving up, no more being friendly. Up there, she is the true fighter.

“I see it as such an honor to fight her, and I’m really glad that once in my life I get to fight my idol. I see myself as an underdog but I am now ready to get in the Circle and fight Angela Lee for the belt, and I will give my best attempt”
