Stephen Thompson and Geoff Neal to headline UFC’s Dec. 19 card

Stephen Thompson and Geoff Neal will now main event the final UFC card of 2020 on Dec. 19. MMA Fighting was first to report the news of the card’s new main event.

Originally, Leon Edwards and Khamzat Chimaev were scheduled to serve as the main event, but after Edwards tested positive for COVID-19, the fight was scrapped.

Thompson and Neal were going to serve as the co-main event and now with the original main event being postponed, the UFC decided to move Thompson and Neal up to the main slot.

Thompson (15-4), who is often better known as his nickname “Wonderboy,” is coming off a win over Vincente Luque over a year ago at UFC 244. The former two-time title challenger has always been a staple of the welterweight division as he’s scored wins over Rory MacDonald, Jorge Masivdal, Johny Hendricks and Robert Whittaker.

Neal (13-2) has won all five of his UFC fights after earning a contract on Dana White’s Contender Series. Four of his five wins ave come by knockout including wins over Mike Perry and Niko Price.
