Tai Tuivasa, Alexander Volkov, UFC 293

Tai Tuivasa vs Alexander Volkov added to UFC 293

There’s just been a very exciting fight booking added to UFC 293, as a pair of heavyweight contenders in no. 6 ranked Tai Tuivasa (14-5) and no. 7 ranked Alexander Volkov will go to battle at this event.

UFC 293 is to go down on September 10, 2023, live from the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia.

Former AFC heavyweight champion Tai Tuivasa came to the UFC back in 2017 with a perfect record of 6-0. He’d win his first three bouts with the promotion, finishing up his streak with a victory over former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski (UD) before dropping his next three-straight.

Tuivasa then began taking his training more seriously, rattling off five-straight knockout victories following his three-fight skid. This showed him victorious over the likes of Stefan Struve (KO), Greg Hardy (KO), Augusto Sakai (KO), and Derrick Lewis (KO).

However, he’s since dropped his last two-straight to the likes of no. 2 ranked former interim UFC heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane (KO) and no. 1 ranked former FNG heavyweight champion Sergei Pavlovich (KO).

Former Bellator and M-1 Global heavyweight champion Alexander Volkov on the other hand came to the UFC one year prior to Tuivasa in 2016 with a record of 26-6. Following a four-fight win streak where Volkov capped off his run with a victory over former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum (KO), he’d then get KO’d by Derrick Lewis.

This was a fight he was absolutely dominating up until he was stopped with just 11 seconds remaining in the bout.

Nonetheless, Volkov’s resume has gotten pretty spotty from here, going 6-3 since, coming into this bout on a two-fight win streak with victories over Jairzinho Rozenstruik (TKO) and Alexander Romanov (TKO).

Of Tuivasa’s 14 career wins, 13 come via knockout, while of Volkov’s 36 career wins, 24 come via knockout.

This is an exciting match up you do not want to miss!

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
