Tatiana Suarez remains undefeated, submits former champion Jessica Andrade in UFC Nashville co-main event

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, August 5, 2023, for UFC Nashville, going down live from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.

Headlining the event is a 140 lb catchweight bout between a pair of bantamweight contenders in no. 4 ranked Cory Sandhagen (16-4) and no. 7 ranked Rob Font (20-6).

Co-headlining the event was a strawweight match up between no. 5 ranked former divisional champion Jessica Andrade (24-12) and no. 10 ranked Tatiana Suarez (10-0).

Suarez was originally slated to face no. 6 ranked Virna Jandiroba (19-3) tonight. However, the Brazilian contender was forced from the bout with a knee injury and replaced by fellow Brazilian finisher Jessica Andrade.

Following a 4-1 run from 2020 to 2023, defeating the likes of Katlyn Chookagian (KO), Cynthia Calvillo (TKO), Amanda Lemos (arm-triangle choke), and Lauren Murphy (UD), only losing to former flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko (TKO), Andrade had since lost her last two-straight to Erin Blanchfield (rear naked choke) and Yan Xiaonan (KO).

Suarez on the other hand just returned to the octagon for the first time in nearly four years in February, dispatching of Montana De La Rosa (guillotine choke) up at 125 lbs prior to her strawweight return tonight at UFC Nashville.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
