Tecia Torres now draws newcomer Sam Hughes at UFC 256
Tecia Torres has a new opponent for UFC 256 on Saturday.
Torres will now fight Sam Hughes on the preliminary card this weekend. Best Fight Picks was first to report the news of the fight.
Originally Torres was scheduled for a second fight with Angelia Hill in a battle between two ranked strawweight contenders. The fight was scrapped when Hill was forced to withdraw from after testing posting for COVID-19.
Torres (11-5) is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Brianna Van Buren in June. The win snapped a four-fight losing streak for “The Tiny Tornado.” Those losses came against stellar opponents as Torres suffered decision defeats to current strawweight champion Zhang Weili, former champs Jessica Andrade and Joanna Jedrzejczyk and rising contender Marina Rodriguez.
Hughes (5-1) will take this fight on literally days notice. The LFA standout is coming off a highlight-reel submission victory over Danielle Hindley at LFA 93 in October. Prior to that fight, Hughes suffered her only professional loss to Vanessa Demopoulos in a LFA title fight.
UFC 256 will be headlined by a flyweight championship fight between Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno. Figueiredo just made his first flyweight title defense three weeks ago at UFC 255. Moreno also fought on the same card.
