Titan FC Champ Jose ‘Shorty’ Torres Gets Call to Fight at UFC Utica

Titan FC champion Jose “Shorty” Torres has long wanted his shot to fight in the UFC and now he’s finally receiving the opportunity.

Torres will step into replace Hector Sandoval, who suffered an injury that forced him out of his upcoming contest at UFC Fight Night in Utica, NY. Torres is now expected to face Jarred Brooks on the card taking place on June 1 in New York.

Sources close to the situation confirmed the news on Tuesday following an initial report from Combate.

Torres is 7-0 in his career while holding titles at both bantamweight and flyweight in Titan Fighting Championships. Torres has only gone to decision twice in his career and holds a knockout win over former UFC fighter Pedro Nobre.

Torres has advocated for his shot in the UFC several times in the past but never got the call to compete there…until now. Torres is also the latest fighter from Titan FC to graduate to the UFC after COO Lex McMahon commented just last week how the promotion prides itself on building fighters to go to that next level.

Now Torres will get his shot.

Jose Shorty Torres will step into face Brooks, who has gone 13-1 in his career with his lone loss coming by split decision in his most recent fight in the UFC.

The matchup between Torres and Brooks will take place at the UFC’s first ever card in Utica, N.Y. with a bantamweight showdown between Marlon Moraes and Jimmie Rivera headlining the card.
