Tom Aspinall calls out Blagoy Ivanov following TKO win over Serghei Spivac at UFC Vegas 36

UFC heavyweight contender Tom Aspinall called out Blagoy Ivanov following his recent TKO win over Serghei Spivac at UFC Vegas 36.

Aspinall, who is just 28 years old, improved to 11-2 as a pro with the knockout win over Spivac this past weekend in Las Vegas. It was Aspinall’s fourth win in as many tries in the Octagon, with prior victories over Andrei Arlovski, Alan Baudot, and Jake Collier. Currently ranked No. 13 in the UFC heavyweight rankings, Aspinall is looking to continue climbing the ladder in order to make it break into the top-10 of the rankings. However, he is in no rush to get a title shot and says he would rather earn his way to the top of the division.

Speaking the media following UFC Vegas 36, Aspinall was asked what’s next for him, and he gave a very reasonable callout towards Ivanov, who’s ranked one spot ahead of Aspinall at No. 12 in the UFC heavyweight rankings. Ivanov is just 2-3 overall in the UFC but he has proven to be an incredibly tough out as he’s never been finished by strikes in his career. Aspinall likes this test and hopes the UFC books it.

“I want to fight a ranked guy. I know Serghei was ranked. I just want to fight guys that are around my ranking. I believe in earning a title shot. I don’t believe in the hype train pushing you to a title shot. I want to fight a guy above me. Some guy who just interviewed me brought up Blagoy Ivanov – that’s a fight I would love. He’s a durable guy. I have a lot of respect for him. He’s been around a long time, and he is so, so tough. And I want to see how my power and speed does against somebody like that,” Aspinall told reporters (h/t MMAjunkie).

Do you want to see the UFC match-up Tom Aspinall with Blagoy Ivanov next or someone else instead?
