Tony Ferguson vs Kevin Lee book for UFC 216

UFC President Dana White is unsure if a fight between Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee will headline the Oct. 7, UFC 216 pay-per-view in Las Vegas, but he has assured the fight has been booked.

With lightweight champion Conor McGregor competing in a highly anticipated boxing bout against Floyd Mayweather Jr., on Aug. 26, the title has been held in limbo.

Ferguson (22-3) was supposed to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov for the interim title back at UFC 209, however the fight fell off after Nurmagomedov was hospitalized following a bad weight cut.  Ferguson has won nine fights in a row. His last loss was in 2012, a unanimous decision in favor of Michael Johnson.

Lee (16-2) is coming off a first round submission win over Michael Chiesa in July.  Lee is currently riding a five-fight win streak in the UFC.

Proposed UFC 216 fight card:

Tony Ferguson vs. Kevin Lee – for interim lightweight title
Will Brooks vs. Nik Lentz
Bobby Green vs. Lando Vannata
Beneil Dariush vs. Evan Dunham
Thales Leites vs. Brad Tavares
Magomed Bibulatov vs. John Moraga
Marco Beltran vs. Matt Schnell
Mark Godbeer vs. Walt Harris
Jessica Eye vs. Paige VanZant (flyweight bout)
